The Version That Made Me Switch From ESPN/SEGA!

For the past few years I have been playing Sega''s (now ESPN)series of football games and just loved them. This year, I got Sega''s offering, that was dirt cheap and it was OK. I''m not into the "crib" scene, but gameplay was great like in previous years. I saw a promo for getting a discount on a wireless remote when you bought Madden 2005 when it came out and went for it. After getting used to the differences, I have become addicted. I have started in Franchise mode and also done the fantasy draft. After playing several "seasons", I now look forward to the owner off-season mode as much as playing games. It gives you insight into the game, the combine, free agency, etc. ESPN''s football game goes overboard in owner mode. I don''t want to go through a massive menu and decide what kind of workout my defensive backs have this week. I would much rather shop around my baggage for what my team needs (in Madden). I think that Madden''s graphics look better. I actually tried playing my Sega game last week and am so used to Madden that I stopped after a couple minutes.

There are things I wish Madden stole from ESPN/SEGA...a half time show, a weekly wrapup show, more realistic penalties. I have been playing this game a ton and have NEVER seen a pass interference call. Hopefully, some of this will be addressed in the 2006 offering. They may start to slack though since the NFL Players Assoc has signed an exclusive agreement with Madden, therefore squashing all competition.

OK i''m gonna sound picky here and i think theres enough reviews already on this game but i wanted to post one anyhow. This is Madden and it goes without saying that it''s fun and in depth. The gameplay and graphics are as always, very good. This year,Ea and Madden attempted to make the franchise mode more in depth and ''extravagent'' than before. They do this with the newspapers on the teams,Tony Bruno talking during his radio show and so forth. Fantastic idea, but it sure needs work. This whole idea gets old and like the commentating, repeitive pretty quick. The same things are said too often by Bruno and the comments in the papers as well emails are lackluster and redundant as hell. But my biggest problem with this is when its all just way off-base altogether. Examples...my team was playing great,undefeated,etc.etc. So the prediction which is sometimes noted in the paper, was that my team was a "mess" and would lose the next game. Um,what?I broke a record against one team and the paper goes on to list the WRONG team that i broke it against. Ridiculous. If you "RESIGN" a player, meaning hes already on your team, the newspaper will then say something that doesnt make sense like "They were shocked he was AVAILABLE" as though he was a free-agent. The game just cant distinguish certain things,i know. This is why i say the new franchise mode needs work. Another thing that is actually more agravating than the paper and emails is a players "morale" which is new. A player can get angry if you arent using him enough,or he isnt starting, etc. you get the idea.Again, cool concept but it fails. I had a player who was offended he wasnt starting. I let him complain a while then made him the starter, mainly to see if this would cease. He has a great game, scores 3 TD''S,has over 100 rushing yards. The morale doesnt change. I keep him the starter,he keeps doing great. His morale doesnt change,he''s still mad and still making the same 3 or 4 complaints. This is dumb. Evidentally, you cant make someone happy enough which means you just cant change his morale once he''s upset. My question is simply "why??"That is not realistic and Madden is based on realisim. The franchise concept like i stated is intriguing and more advanced but they just need to work on it more. Too many things that are written in the papers or mentioned by Bruno dont make any sense with whats really happening. I also noticed there will be no mention of a created player by Bruno which i expected, but why cant he say "The San Francisco QB" or whatever? So this is nit-picking to some, but after playing Madden since ''95,i''m entitled.

This game has a good franchise mode

This game has a good franchise mode. Better than 03 and 04. The game arrived 2 days late but I ordered it around Easter weekend so the post office was probably swamped.
